Dyson Parody claims the GDA Masters Ranking No.2 title!

Last Friday the George Federico Darts Hall hosted the second of seven Ranking Tournament of the Darts Season, the GDA Masters.

40 players turned up to try and gain ranking points and climb the Ranking tables.

The initial rounds of this seeded tournament are played as best of 7 legs. Six of the eight seeded players progressed comfortably to the Quarter finals. Nº3 seed David Francis narrowly lost his board final to Carlos Muñoz 4-3, having beaten Shane Smith 4-0 in the 1st Round. Nº5 seed Christian Tosso lost his 1st Round match 4-2 to Guillermo Mascarenhas.

Team St.Theresa’s claim the 2019 Friendship Cup title!

Last night the George Federico Darts Hall hosted the GDA Friendship Cup which dates back to 1979. The trophy was donated by Mr. Bill Gibson, the Leicestershire (UK) secretary and brought to Gibraltar by Mr Dicky McCarthy (then GDA secretary) and Mr. John Trinidad. A five-man team from St. Theresa’s Social Club were the first ever winners.

This year saw a very good turn out with 49 players registering. The format is Teams of 5 players, who play “best of 3” legs. The tournament was played in a great atmosphere with all players impressed with the new venue.

Sean Negrette claims the 2019 Strongbow Singles Ranking title!

Friday 15th November saw the first Ranking Tournament of the Darts Season take place in the George Federico Darts Hall.

This event is sponsored by Strongbow Cider. The GDA holds a series of 7 Ranking Tournaments throughout the year, points being awarded depending on positions. At the end of the Season the top players earn the opportunity to represent Gibraltar at international events such as the WDF World / European Cups & Mediterranean Cup.

The initial rounds of this seeded tournament are played as best of 7 legs.

No.1 seed Dyson Parody lost 4-2 to Dylan Duo, No.3 seed David Francis lost 4-1 to Carlos Muñoz and No.5 seed Christian Tosso lost 4-2 to Kean Olivero.

Justin Hewitt PDC Youth World Championship report!

The Gibraltar Darts Association were once again given a spot at the PDC World Youth Championship, which we would like to thank the PDC for giving Gibraltar this spot again and give the opportunity to one of our youngsters to participate in this prestigious event.

Justin Hewitt won the Gibraltar Qualifier. He recorded wins over Joseph Ward, Jarvis Bautista & Sean Negrette to claim his spot at the PDC World Youth Championships for the first time.

This event features the Top 96 players from around the World from the age of 16 up to 24. 17 year old Justin Hewitt was in a field of players which included Germany’s Number 1 and current World Number 25 Max Hopp, World Matchplay Semi-Finalist and World Number 22 Jeffrey de Zwaan, England’s Ted Evetts who finished first in the 2019 Development Tour winning a total of 8 events this year and many many more amazing players.

Justin Hewitt claims the first GDA title at the new venue!

The recently inaugurated George Federico Darts Hall at the Europa Stadium hosted its first GDA tournament last night, namely the Clubhouse Charity Tournament.

This tournament follows a unique format in our calendar – double in, double out, best of 3 legs. This means no score counts until you hit a double.

36 players turned up to take part along with family members to cheer them on which made for a lively evening. Play soon commenced on 8 boards with some top players losing out early on with this tricky format.

Justin Hewitt wins the 2019 National Day Darts Trophy!

The new darts season kicked off last night with 23 players picking up their darts after the summer recess and turning up to the Varyl Begg Social Club for the National Day Trophy.

This tournament is played on a short format, best of 3 legs, with the semis & Final being best of 5. The 7 preliminary matches were pretty one sided affairs, all of them being won 2-0, except for the match between Harry Parody & Darren Olivero whch Harry won 2-1.
